PRISON DANCE PROGRAM
Social Justice Series

I share with prisoners new ways to express their emotions through dance in order to provide them with skills to prevent them re-offending by offering them a chance to reig- nite the support and acceptance of their families who have largely rejected them.

DANCE MAKING AS A SOCIAL CHANCE TOOL

IT CAN HAPPEN TO ALL OF US

Every year since 2014, I bring international and local dance artists to perform for inmates. Since 2016, I have run a program with the administrative support of authorities, in order to propose another possible route for inmates’ reintegration after their time in jail. Dance allows the inmates to work through their emotions and reflect on their pasts.

The project was so successful that the TV channels Al-Jazeera and the national TV of Burkina Faso did two documentary films based on my work with inmates.
I honestly strongly believe that this kind of project can help to fight against extreme poverty, and reduceextremism violence.

To care and to share my love of dance with an unexpected group of students - the inmates of Bobo Diou- lasso prison in Burkina Faso. Through dance, I aim to give the prisoners something that is in short supply

in their overcrowded cells: hope. Within the formidable prison walls.
